Gonzales The Street Cat

The book is the first in a series and is based on the true story of a rescue cat I found while living and working in the Middle East. It’s an easy-to-read, 111-page middle-grade adventure told mainly from the perspective of the cat.

An adventure with claws, courage, and a dash of cat-titude.
When Kitty and Jack arrive in a magical desert kingdom, the last thing they expect is to adopt a wise-cracking rescue cat with a serious attitude and a mysterious past.

Once abandoned, he dreams of stability…and a loving home. Gonzales must decide if he wants to let go of his street cat life and gang to embrace a potential new life. However, the trio must navigate a series of challenges, encountering new places and experiences.

Based on a true story and told from a feline perspective, this heart-warming and amusing tale of friendship, feline wisdom and second chances will suit fans of ‘Garfield’ or ‘The Travelling Cat Chronicles.’

Readers’ Favourite Book Review

Kitty May Gruchelska’s Gonzales the Street Cat follows the adventures of a sassy white cat named Gonzales. Named Qitt by his previous “hoomans”, Gonzales had to adapt to living in the streets of Yasmin, alongside others of his species. All he wants is to avoid Animal Control and find a nice home with hoomans who love and take care of him. Enter Jack and Kitty, a couple who recently arrived in this Middle Eastern city for work and don’t mind leaving food for the neighbourhood cats. While Jack has his misgivings, Kitty wants to adopt Gonzales. After a visit to the vet, Gonzales isn’t too pleased. However, he must make up his mind. As his friends leave for newer territories, Gonzales must decide if he truly wants to live in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Gonzales the Street Cat is a fantastic first instalment in the Adventures of Gonzales series and will charm its way into the hearts of young readers in no time. Full of heart and humor, this adventure tale is just so much fun to read. Author Kitty May Gruchelska crafts an absorbing yarn with plenty of unexpected twists and turns. From the first page onward, you find yourself rooting for Gonzales to be adopted by a human family. I loved the relationship dynamics between Gonzales and his friends on the streets. The author really excels at highlighting all the different cat personalities, and they leave their mark on the reader. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. If you’re a pet owner or animal lover, in general, I heartily recommend you grab yourself a copy.
